i read a few times that some guys caulk the tape in order to prevent bleed thru. I also read some guys apply "clear" prior to painting the stripe to also prevent paint from seeping under the tape.

My first question is when you pull off the tape after you painted, isn't there a little ridge or bump from the remaining caulk? That would seem quite noticable. My second question is what is "clear"?

I am about to do a bedrm in 8 inch stripes, verticaly and was thinking of trying the caulking since the walls are slightly textured. thanks

Seal the tape with the colour you are trying to protect.
Any bleeding happening will be the same colour as the basecoat.
It works great!

Some painters will caulk the lines followed by a damp rag to wipe the excess off. It's thick so does not seep, but seals. Never done it that way myself so not sure how well it actually works. I like the method George mentioned.

I would be worried that the thin caulk lines would show unless it was the clear stuff or same color as the base coat or strip coat. I like the idea of taping the lines and then doing another base coat. What tape are you using for the striping? Orange core, regular blue, frog, 3m green even maybe? I would think when you do you second base coat it has to be just on the strip sides of the tape.
I have never (well not frequently) done striping, what do you do to keep them straight and parallel?

2 part epoxy paint doesn't bleed much :) ok

Use a laser line level, tape to the line on the wall.

I snap a line, sometimes the laser doesn't reach all the way and while your masking your hand gets in the way. I only use the laser to mark my spot.
You'd enjoy watching this fat boy contort into position so he can see the line while taping.

i use the base color usually

i have used the clear, and it works fine,,,,(sometimes you dont have the base color)

i have used the caulk method when we striped some stucco,,,,,i think this would work good for your textured surface,,just wipe it down somewhat tight, and uniform
