Part of the proposal (customer contact info, work order with budget, colour schedule etc) is copied and pasted on the job manager's Google apps calendar
for the day the job is supposed to start.
Job managers have company e-mail [email protected]
Job managers have iphones on the jobsite and none of the above has to be printed.
We will also be using this time tracking program that can be used on iphones,
so budgets can be compared to actual hours worked easily, and it works with Quickbooks for payroll ease.
We are ready to go with all this, we just need to do some training for the time tracking program.
Change orders still need to be signed though,
Is there a digital way of approval?

That is fantastic.

On occasion, we will accept an email approval of a change order. We require that the customer either reply to an email we send with all of the relevant information, or that the customer send an email that states the same. Either way, we get it documented.

and I am just starting to figure out direct deposit of pay checks and emailing pay-stubs to reduce paper. Way to keep pushing the paperless green movement, not just in the painting industry George. Do you provide the Iphones? Must use ATT then? I was thinking about it because Iphone seems like a vastly superior smart phone.

Sound cool, But I have a question about the Iphone, Isn't the iphone to sensitive for construction? Are you concerned that they might break and you will have repair bills. What about blackberry, that what we use they seem more durable for construction. And have more business apps.

Have you tried the Rustoleum britephone? It glows in the dark and lights up when it rings. You can choose from 100 different ringtones only instead of sounds they are colors. Also has all the major manufacturers fan decks in its memory so you can pull them up on screen during estimates. Its free when you buy 12 cans of spray paint. I think its a Nokia in a Rustoleum skin, but who cares. Check it out.

Blackeberry here. I wouldn't use Iphone for our type of work if your on the job. If you are out of the bucket, then maybe.
Looking for some protective covers,
there are many out there

Rogers is the only carrier in Canada.
We pay the bill up to $90.00 a month and provide the iphones (3 only for now).
It is one of the extra perks job managers get.

Kind of a tangent, but speaking of phones, is anyone having issues with employees being distracted by their cell phones during the workday? I have cracked down heavily on them as far as employees talking and texting on them during work time. I am very close to requiring them to stay in employees cars in some cases. Some employees are very responsible about their use and others are so addicted to them I want to stomp them right into the ground. At this point the policy is to check them and use them only during break and lunch. Sorry to vent...

It was a problem, but no more.
Cell phones are off, except the job manager's.
We had to fire someone for excessive use and many warnings,
now everyone is behaving
