Plus you should be a little more established before taking on GC's that you do not know that might take advantage of your youth in business. We are getting into some scary times out there and people are getting stiffed for money all the time.

I guess this may be along the lines of this thread... Has anyone ever tried the, "fliers taped to mailbox" method for getting some new biz? I was thinking about getting my season started like this..
Dude mailboxes are government property. May have problems with the postmaster. I had this problem when starting my business, was placing them in the box. Was told anything going in the mailbox has to have a stamp. I don't know what would happen if you taped them there.....watch your A55 brother.

Yah, I know it's a touchy thing.. That's why i was throwing it out there.. It is against the law to put anything IN a mailbox.. Never heard anything about taping it to the outside.. I get things attached to my doorknob w/ a rubber band all the time.. Maybe I'll try that..

Do a postcard and pay the dam postage! I hate it when companies tape crap to my mailbox.....very cheap and fly-by-night.........that is almost as bad as companies placing friggin yard signs at every intersection and randomly along the road.....nowhere near any of their jobs....:censored:

NEPS. A brother got to do what a brother got to do. Why get upset with another mans way of advertising? If this method works for him, so be it. By the way, I have a yard sign that 15 miles from the jobs i have going on now.

I think it was over at CT there was a thread on this, one guy talked about buying cheap paintbrushes, wrapping a flyer around and pitching it on driveway. Maybe some slogan or info printed on brush?

As to the OP question, I have had some success using the permit info to find customers. My state has a construction registry. When a permit is issued it creates an "account", all companies who do work on the house register. It is part of the lein process. Banks and title companies check it to see all have been paid. I can see which GCs are building and approach them as well.

I guess it can be said that any type of advertising is an act of desperation.....huh?
Listen Timhack ..... I spend around 30k a year in advertising. If you want to be a hack and cut corners then go for it. Why dont you make some fliers and fold them into paper airplanes and throw them at the house's too? I probably would be out-pricing the customers you get with those methods.
