Plastic Square Can

I was told this week that S/W will be phasing out the plastic square can.
I happen to be one of the odd ducks that prefered the square can over the round, since I don't use the rounds for cut buckets and the square packs better while transporting and the handles are easier on the hands. So sorry to see it go. Didn't get a lot of info, so I wonder if the Duration products will be put in round cans.

right now they give me all my paint in real cans, I can't stand for the square plastic ones, cant get all the paint out and its so DIY. but they don't pop open when you open your door to your truck and they fall out . . .
but correct me if I am wrong, SW makes dutch boy which is huge on those plastic cans so they already are packaging paint in them anyways.
SW may own DB, but are they made in the same factories?

Valspar owns Cabot, but Cabot is still made in their own factory, not along side Lowe's AmTrad in the Valspar factory
Ben Moore owns Insul-X, but they don't make it in the BM factory

Besides, DB = DIYer, so different packaging may be the proper way to go anyway
Yeah I just saw a commercial yesterday for DB and they were pushing the ease of the plastic can. Maybe SW is going to just use it for DB.

Also SW owns P&L and they have had accolade in those cans too, you can get it in either can tho. funny thing when you use the computer software to mix P&L under accolade it list both cans and the formulas are different based on what can u use.

Good point Slick, SW owns DB but do they "make" DB? My SW store is very DIY oriented so I would be surprised if I did not see any plastic cans in there anymore.
bucket hooks didnt work with them

the lid gets glued to the threads

sucks to cut out of

nooks and crannies that trap paint

a true Rube Goldberg contraption

good riddance!
Probably sell far more paint to contractors. Why make two cans? it's not cost effective, so make one, the most popular one. ROUND.
I don't mind the square so much but I hate the screw-on lids! Last fall fall I finished up a small job renovating a couple of bathrooms. The master bath had a lime green color in it. I finished up the job, packed up, then noticed one small spot that I wanted to touch up. Went out, grabbed the "can", walked through the front door, through the foyer, down the hall, and half way through the master bedroom when I looked down to see that the screw lid was cross threaded and didn't seal. The "can" slanted a bit as I opened the front door.

Needless to say I was cleaning the new pin stripes off of their oriental rugs. :( I have never ever ever done that before. I HATE THOSE SCREW ON LIDS!

Thats ok. The soft, round full cans were always better anyways.
Has anyone tried to go back and touch up out of the "screw yourself plastic can". Yah, it welds itself shut from the dried paint in the threads and you have to punch through the plastic top to do touch ups. Pretty sweet idea. I wouldn't recommend buying stock in the plastic paint can from hell. Good riddance! I can't believe I new how to spell riddance!
ya swp does make dutch boy, last year i interned for them and we went on a field trip to their emulsion plant in chicago, we saw lines of duration and super being dumped into squares right next to the dutch boy lines.
I was pouring the cat liter in the liter box for my wife and thought of this post. It's a perfect square bucket a it called scoop away liter. SW isn't the only one that makes them.

Now just gotta figure out what to do with all this dam liter:balloon:

Use it to harden up left over paint:rolleyes:
I did a job with those :censored: plastic square cans - - -Never again! They were the final straw that pushed me over to Ben Moore. Those cans totally suck for all the reasons mentioned!
Oh... this is like the perfect opening to diss SW... lol...

EVIL... EVIL I say... lol.. :whistling2:
