Opinions are needed please. Yesterday the crew and I finished a project. It required that prior to starting any painting we would cover up the entire main floor which was all hardwood floors. The hardwood floors were finished six weeks ago with three coats of oil polyurethane. That should have been plenty of time for it to have cured. Wii used 3M 2080 blue tape and red rosin construction paper to protect all of the floors. After completion of all of the painting and on the final day we pulled up all of the paper and tape. Not a single scratch for the entire hardwood floors. This project consisted of having all of the base case doors and balusters spray painted white. Followed by spray painting all ceilings and then brushing and rolling all walls, followed by painting all of the handrail and newel posts with oil-based enamel. The hardwood floors were completely protected but we noticed that some of the polyurethane Has Lifted after we pulled up all of the paper and tape. We immediately pointed this out to the homeowner and they were pissed off that we were negligent in this matter. We consulted with three General Contractors and their hardwood floor men and all of them stated that it was certainly the hardwood floor guys who didn't do the prep work possibly the staining or the actual poly coats correctly. What are the opinions of you painters and have any of you ever dealt with this? Any comments are greatly appreciated.
