My paint store is going to be carrying PPG industrial product and their Speedwall line. Any particular products you guys love from them? I do mainly residential work, so not much use for the industrial line but I might get into garage floors are some point.

How is speedwall for drywall primer, compared to BM super spec 253 or vapor barrier? How does speedwall stack up to super spec (for low end new homes)?

They will not be carrying their upper line of paint at this point, they are a Graham and BM store mainly right now.

Interesting that a BM store would bring in PPG usually don't see that. When i moved into my new town 3 yrs ago I didn't have BM close so I had two options to choose from PPG or P&L and experimented with both and choose P&L. The speedline from PPG was not good coverage wise in my opinion. I did not mind the Pure Perfermance it was ok. I did not try the top line. One thing was the PPG dealer did not have computers to match colors etc.. old hardware type place. I needed a place to be able to match BM's colors into a product.

But a comparison of speedline to BM's SS I would stay w/ SS

They are bringing in some PPG right now for their industrial line, which I guess is supposed to be better than Moores (not my niche so I really do not know). Also, a competing local paint store chain may become a BM signature dealer, so I think they are adding some PPG so they have another full line paint option if that happens.

Don't know what you like paint wise, but here is my two cents. First, I don't care for super spec. I think PPG Speedhide is as good for less money. Pure performance and Timeless are both good products. Never heard of Speedwall and don't even see it on thier site. Have used the Speedhide primer (last week) and it works well. Cannot compare to BM because have not used thier primers.

Speedhide Primer/Sealer for New Drywall is, IMO, one of the most underrated primers out there
I have found it's coverage and hide for new drywall is spectacular
It's performance belies it's "contractor/builder quality primer" status in the Pittsburgh line-up, and is good enough to use on premium jobs no problem

Actually, the only problem is if it's getting painted white, the H/O might walk in after priming and think that you painted it the wrong shade of white, because one coat of this primer looks like a top coat of flat white

The Speedhide paints are fine "builder/contractor" quality paints
I use them for commercial, they are a little less money than SuperHide (BM) and just as good, if not better (for the price)...(but I won't use either in an interior re-paint unless it' a garage or something)

The Manor Hall line, Int. and Ext. is good also, but sounds like you won't have to worry about that

I use the speedhide flat or eggshell on many high-end interior homes, it works great. I'm not a huge fan of the speedhide primer (5-2 I think it's called) and even less of a fan of the 8 line series self-priming paint. So far I haven't found a primer that works better then the SW Masterhide paint and is self-sealing on new drywall. Spraying and back rolling it gives a finished appearance easily in one coat and in fact I'll leave my ceilings that way.

I did a job not too long along ago where I had primed a new drywall basement w/ BM SS primer and the PPG dealer comp'd me a five of Speedhide white flat, I used it for the ceilings and i could see right thru it and had to two coat the ceilings. Unless they gave me a bad five I couldn't believe the poor coverage and how thin it was.

I think the Speedwall line is now called Wallhide or maybe it also was called that. but on there page they list that higher then Speedhide so maybe its to be better.
