Hi guys!

I am a new member - I am an artist about to paint a mural on a cinder block wall. I have checked the existing topics and haven't found the similar problem. So I hope somebody could advise

The specs are: The wall is brand new, in the brand new building. It's exterior. Made of CMU (cinder blocks). After finishing the building contractor applied a waterproofing treatment - BASF MAsterProtect HB400. The paint I am going to use is Sherwin-Williams Resilience (Exterior Acrylic Latex).

BASF rep told us that with the usage of appropriate primer it shouldn't be a problem. Sherwin-Williams rep thinks it's a tough surface, but obviously recommends their Extreme Bonding Primer, BUT tells that it's better to test it before applying to the whole wall.

The catch is that the priming should be performed not by me, but by another contractor, and it's not obvious if they are willing to test anything - basically they want to be told what to apply...

So - repeating the question in short - does anybody has an experience of painting on recently waterproofed (BASF HB400) CMU wall? Or treated with anything similar? Which primer would you recommend to use under exterior latex acrylic paint (for exterior usage)?

This is a big project so I really want it to stay on the wall and not peel of!!! Thank you so much!

MasterProtect HB400 is designed to allow moisture to escape, the issue that I have had with murals is moisture transmission that would lift the paint every time the sun hit them. That being said a good bonding primer would be my recommendation. In my store that would be Stix from Insl-X a Benjamin Moore product.

My question you is how long are you looking for the mural to last? The Resilience will not have the color fastness of Aura. The feed back from the muralists has been that it is very easy to work with and offers the most intense colors. Check it out or let me know if you have any questions.
