How much do you charge to....

Easy way out. Quoting prices here might be interpeted as price fixing.
Price fixing... doubtful since we really aren't competitors.

Easy way out.. definitely. There are way too many factors involved in pricing a job to do so in this setting. (There may be a few exceptions, but they are exceptions.)

Such questions are based on ignorance-- simply not knowing what is involved in properly pricing a job. But that isn't surprising, since 90% of those starting a business this year won't make it 5 years.

Talk is cheap. Its' like I am really a 17 year old girl, and like to chat with painters. They tell me that they get $75 an hour to paint someones bed room, but is it a fact? Where is the beef? How can we really affect the market? :euro: How about all the painters out there who have never heard of Paint Talk .com? Where do they figure in? Can you say cartel?:arabia:

Happy painting, Paul.

I thought part of the idea of this forum was for the less experienced to get advice from the more experienced, not allot of chest pounding.:whistling2:

Why do people worry about price fixing? If I say my price - it doesn't mean you have to adhere to what I charge - you could if you wanted to. Not to mention the congress has passed laws allowing major pharmaceuticals to pay 'shut up' money to generic medecine manufactuerers to no put their products out on pharmaceutical shelves - sound a tad bit like price fixing?
But hey that's ok, big business has every right to price fix, since they make up the laws with all their lobbyists in D.C. While pity the poor little painting contractors that agree not to compete with each other below say $43/man-hour - that would be downright illegal.

OMG, it wasn't intended as a serious post, just an excuse to avoid the "how do I price it" questions.

Q. How do I price xx and xx?

A. I'd tell ya, but don't want to be accused of pricefixing.

now look, everyone got all worked up over nothing. but next time perhaps you could give some indication that you are not starting a serious thread. one of the downsides of this mode of communication is that it can be difficult to interpret tone, unless its blatantly sarcastic or something. yours was, well...something else.

Vermont,
Thanks for the response. I'm really bad about doing that, here and in real life.
I'm working on it. But I hate blatant sarcasm. Subtle is better. I love light bulbs.

tmrrptr,
Unions still bid work. They just pay all the labor the same wage. That's wage fixing, LOL.
