Primer for stained cabinets

What are cabinets made out of?

*If the cabinets are stained (and varnished), there probably won't be much in the way of staining/tannin bleed. They should be 'sealed', and adhesion will be the main concern (assuming you are not sanding through the clear).

Unless the cabinets are oak - the deep, open grain of oak seems to want to stain/bleed.
I used to think this way also, however we always purposely burn through the clear, especially on the edges and corners to promote adhesion from the primer. Ive been using 1 coat of BIN, but 2 coats of Smartprime would probably work.
I'm just dumbfounded at the adhesion and stain blocking properties of BIN.

I spray it in my shop with hvlp yep. Sprays like a dream.! I ventilate with a range hood fan. .may upgrade soon..but honestly is fine for doing 30 doors. We just roll it when on site, and crack a few windows. Honestly, it drys so fast that the smell is not that bad. Although We always wear Respirators.. Personally I find it waay less abnoxious than Stix Primer, but yes probably more explosive..😅

what is your go to top coat ?
As 75% of our cabinet jobs are the old honey oak ones, we mostly use Advance. The oak cabinets need to be backrolled atleast on the first coat and Advance is soo brush/roller friendly. We also use ScuffX and Command especially for darker colours.
Living on an Island, I don't have access to alot of the fancy Italian Paints. BM also sends me all thier customers so naturally I use thier products. Would love to try some Milesi or Renner products sometime..
