Hey Guys,

We just started using QR codes as a cool new technology factor. Not sure if you all painters would find it useful. We launched it at a Denver home show over the weekend and people were very intrigued. Here's a good site to create them: http://qrcode.kaywa.com/. If you have any questions, please feel free to message me. We also use the codes to promote our social media which has been very beneficial. Here is a link to that blog.

Enjoy and happy painting everyone!

We're just getting started with them--the guy that does our graphics is really excited about them. We'll have a QR code on our next trade show display that will lead to our website.

I'm not sure I care for qr codes.
First, they are simply unattractive. They look so impersonal- every one you see looks like all the others.
Second, if I hand you a business card or flyer, or my ad in the paper you already have my website and contact info. Why would you look at a quick response other then maybe the 'quick' of it?

Not sure I see them as the future.

I'm kinda with you on this one, I'm just trying to figure out what type of business would be suited for this? Whats wrong with using your website address on whatever? This is kinda like wanting to find a use for something so you can buy it but can't.

I think what some of the pluses are is the amount of information you can get out to your prospect. It virtually unlimited. It also will help track what advertising is working for you.

The one thing you guys may be missing is the biggest selling feature on the planet... instant gratification. The more digital we get, the lazier we get. You mean I don't even have to type in a URL... just scan that code and be instantly taken to a website? Wow.

Its sad but for that reason, I think it will get bigger and bigger. Its a great way to get someone from your postcard to your website right at the front door. That's huge.

Also unlike handing out a business card that gets kicked around, lost or tossed. The contact info can be stored directly to their contacts. making it literally impossible to misplace, lose or accidentally thrown away. Being that smart phones are up about 30% of choice of phone. This will get huge IMO

Yeah. Good Points.
I also wonder what % of my customers are smart phone savvy? The older generation is just getting comfortable online.

Could you imagine a drawer full of business cards, nothing on them but a black and white square:blink:
Almost as strange of thinking 15 years ago that every business card would have a website and email address on it. Stranger yet to think about 20 years from now when an implanted chip changes that bus stop advertising to cater to you as you walk by it. Technology is like a runaway train.

Anyone remember bag phones? Or the phones that looked like you could call in bombing coordinates.

Rob was just watching a hunting show, they were at a hunting expo. The shelves of trail cameras, each one had a QR code in front of it. Bunch of ******* deer hunters all pointing their phones at the codes so they could capture all the information the camera!

QR Codes are here. They will be more and more prevalent as the year moves on.

Smartphone sales are steadily increasing, and the ability to read this codes.

Its another form of advertising for us to take advantage of.

Yes, it more useful for other types of business, but lets use them for the best of our abilities.

What can we do with them?

Get them printed on your cards, your fliers, door hangers, direct mailers, on everything, get then on your work vehicle! Maybe out of range for the reader, but imagine being at a red light and the ability for someone next to you to be able read the code and have instant access to all your contact info.

Forget just the contact info, you need to lead them to your website ( optimized for mobile phones by the way) or create a specific landing page for this page.

Side Note : Your website does have the ability to detect a mobile user and display an alternative mobile site or a specific landing page for mobile users.

The landing page could be your blog, a coupon, a form to enter a contest ( this is where you capture their email address and start email marketing them ), a video, information, or anything that else that you can up with.

Starbucks recently released mobile payments nationwide via QR Codes.

I hope be implementing in the coming months. It's good to get in early and figure out the kinks and get everything setup before the competition figures it out.

I'm sure we can collectively come up with some great ideas for the use of these codes.

And note to Bender - there is some customization that you can do to them, albeit not much but enough to make it different then the rest. You can incorporate some of you brand image in there. You can't tinker too much or you break the code and make unreadable.

The good thing is, and if your comfortable with programs like photoshop, GIMP, or Paint.net., you can sit there and customize onscreen and just keep tweaking it, while testing with your phone in hand.

That its. Good Luck.

We use them all the time, particularly for trade shows but also on business cards. Came across dynamic qr codes which you can update again and again without re-printing. This is great as once the Code is on the display you have to re-print if you wanna change the message but not with these new dynamic codes.

Works great for us. :notworthy:

I have a QR code on the back of my business card. Its just a business card, if it suddenly isnt in use anymore then I just have new cards made with whatever the newest craze is.
You could make one that goes to a hidden area in your website where you offer a special deal or promotion. This will not only make Joe Iphone feel cool thinking he is getting a special deal, but can also tell you if QR codes are worth putting on more of your advertising.
