I've used the kem products from SW which were good lacquers. I've done cabinets with the BM Advance and SW ProClassic which I thought were over rated when brush/rolled. I really like the cabinet coat made by rustoleum that I get from Lowes. Are there any other products / application methods that y'all would recommend for cabinets? I would prefer products that you can brush / roll but will keep an open mind to all suggestions.:yes:

Breakthrough is nice. Little tricky to hand apply, but can potentially flow out great. I get good results with a 3/8 microfiber mini.

It's fast dry/cure and early block resistance are really nice. Good hard film as well, not to mention outstanding adhesion on difficult substrates.

Several threads on here about Breakthrough on cabinets. Repaint Florida kinda got the ball rolling here at PT with it. I tried it, and really liked it. Course, I usually spray cabinets, or the doors at least. Have done boxes/frames by hand with it and it has turned out good. I practiced with it first though, on trim and doors.

It is different to apply. Puts me in mind of applying shellac. It's fast and runny. If you can get it on evenly and quickly enough it does great. Watch the micro runs.

We have used BM Advanced, Breakthrough, Cabinet Coat and liked them all. So far we have just sprayed these on doors and boxes. I really can't say which I like more.

I'll usually spray the removable parts but brush the frames unless somebody is stickler about technique marks and willing to pay extra to have the frames sprayed also. Any of the water borne alkyd enamels work well enough but I'm not the only painter to favor Arothane over Advance. It's a Frazee (now part of SW) product so I know it's a south western U.S. thing but it's a water borne urethane modified alkyd enamel. It takes an extra coat compared to the old oil-based to get the same luster build but it has excellent block resistance and pretty good flow-out. I'm not a fan of acrylic enamels on woodwork so all of my metrics are in relation to the old fashioned oil alkyd enamels.

If you use SW, try two Pro-Industrial products. The PI Acrylic is very nice. Easy to B&R and the feel is very silky. The PI Precat is a harder finish, spray is great, but does not lay out as nice with B&R. I don't thin but a little extender might help.

One thing I think worth mentioning that I neglected is that the Arothane, Protec, Advance, etc are harder to clean from your brush than the run of the mill latex paint. Some waterless handcleaner or krud kutter works well to get the more tenacious resins flushed out.

BM Insl-X Cabinet Coat has good brush rolly-ness. I have had weird random fish eye type problems when spraying.
