I have a painting contract business up here on Long Island for over 20 years and am considering the possibility of relocating to Florida. It is a little scary the thought of re-establishing myself and family in another state. Has anybody been through this type of move and can you give me any pointers?
It is very expensive to live here on Long Island, alot of low ballers are under cutting us legitimate guys.
Thanks in advance.

I tried it a few years ago and found a new low in low ballers! 50. bucks a room guys galore, New consruction ,illegals have it at rock bottom pricing.

I would set my sites on anywhere but Florida to start up a paint co, my 5 cents (economy, inflation, 2 c will not do!)

I've made a couple moves over the years.....it flat out sucks starting over. You have to build it all up again and unless you have some buckets of cash to live off of, its tight. And FL would be my last place unless you have a job with someone. Maybe Disney world. When I lived down there, wages were about the lowest I ever saw in the country and theres a bunch more non legitimate workers. Not saying there might be more opportunity, but anywhere is iffy.
New Orleans has tons of work...but no money. And when you drive by a home cheapo down there, no kidding, there will be 50 guys on the curb waiting for contractors to pick them up for work and you can be sure these are not high paying workers....so you will compete with that.

I just relocated from the Coachella Valley (Palm Springs) to the inland Empire (Riverside, San Bernardino areas). It only a 60 to 80 miles west
Even that little move has been hard finding a new networking group. Look for their local networking groups such as BNI, Rotary, ect. Call them and talk to them. You can get the feeling what area might be good for you

The Villages..... Have a couple friends who are paint contractors in Florida. They say they're hangin in there but good business has slowed considerably. I dont think it matters where you go, there'll always be someone with a brush in his pocket saying he's a painter and will do it dirt cheap. My next move to Florida will be when I retire, and I'll probably hire out any painting in my house to a legit contractor. When I'm done, I'm done.

I just dropped my local BNI. Was a good group, just not what I expected.
