I was informed today there is a huge shortage of paint resin. So much so, our paint store can’t get resin for Aura paint and when I order lacquer from riechileau I had to wait a week as they had no stock. Prices heading way up. They say plant in Texas that’s out is causing shortage. Going to get bad they say.
any body else seeing thus trend starting. Be careful bidding as the rep said prices going up 20 percent first next month then more.

The BM 508 is an absolute joke. I've used it once and never will again. Took 3 coats on a ceiling that had already been painted white, and still had a few shadows after 3 coats.

I don't find the Beautitone stinky. I wonder if the customer gave you some old stuff. Regal is pricey, even with my discount. I try to use Dulux Lifemaster, when I can. With this shortage, I may be forced to try some new things.

I find the opposite, I find the coverage is extremely good, but the fast dry/flashing is the major issue with it on some surfaces/conditions.

I did two coats recently over a tan-ish ceiling with some light soot my boss didn't wanna prep properly (not best practice, I know... :( ) and the ceilings came out brilliant white in two coats no problem.

I still use SW as their Masterhide is cheap, mildly greyed out, and super dead flat, so on worse condition surfaces it's better as it hides flaws better than 508.

Must have been a bad batch or something, 508 I think probably is the best covering ceiling paint in the biz (other problems it has not withstanding.)

Yeah, well. You know - that article starts with "Federal regulators." Gee they don't actually know anything. They just want power and control by usurping your constitutional (and states') rights. It's not about expertise or anything. Just a desire to destroy the economy and control everyone.

Ok. I'm done now...

My S-W rep said this week that they are backing off production of their lower end products and putting the raw materials into the Superpaint and above products. Citing a problem at their plant in Texas associated with the deep freeze, specifically their Tio2
Titanium dioxide.
He said that it would last at least thru November.
Have also heard of 20-30% increases recently with Dunn Edwards and potentially BM, but cannot confirm.
Should be an interesting time this next 6-8 months...

BM ~5% maybe in june. Last increase from BM was more than 2 years ago and a ~10% reduction on arborcoat products q4 last year.
PPG cetol/sikkens went up another 10% this year and I expect to see another increase mid summer from PPG.

The manager at local S-W said they are trying to pre-order Woodscapes Solid Stain to avoid potential shortages, as there is not substitute for that product. He said they are being limited by how much each store can order at one time.

He said it may be an issue in the near future, but then today the Assistant Manager said it would not be any issue, at least at this time.

So there you have it, pick the answers you like best.
