Interesting marketing
Totally focused on homeowner's fears and price...right down to the company name

Maybe you should have them do your house
Apparently they'll beat your price

Oh BTW, thanks for dissing the rest of us on the deposit thing NoRisk
If you're ever in the neighborhood and need a gallon of primer or an extra hand or two to complete a job, remind me to tell you to :censored::censored:
The deposit isn't just for materials :censored:-weed, it's to ensure the H/O is serious, and won't be bailing on you after scheduling

Amazing what business is getting down to isn't it? Had a deal the past week where I was low bid with a church exactly on what they all wanted. They took up 2 special collections to pay for project so that it could be done before Sunday School started back up in late August.

Then board member that hadn't got around to getting his bids from his painters starts raising big stink cuz one of them is local and local person should get job. Paint should also be purchased locally too. The original request was for no ceilings which I and others painters agreed didn't need to be done and now their throwing out all bids after all this guys complaining and making us all rebid.

wow. what kind of houses are they painting that their materials cost is $450? oh wait, thats right, they dont prime. and that price is without materials so its puts them just under the "other painters" quote. Plus I get the impression that they will hit you with lots of additions. and the whole a thicker coat will last longer and you can only get that by brushing and rolling? common. And who charges a 50% deposit? I charge a 10-15% deposit based on materials % of cost. And they "scrub wash" with no scrubing and then start painting as soon as it is dry. How do they determine it is dry? do they rinse after scraping and sanding? how long do they let that bare wood dry? If only people knew the real process for painting, they could choose wiser.

I often wonder about companies that say only brush and roll. This companies says they can put it on thicker with a brush or roller, well I never learned that one, I have always been able to put a thicker coat on with a sprayer.

I do mostly rough cedar repaints Dave and all the jobs that where sprayed prior to me working on the house looked terrible and never lasted longer then 3 or 4 years.

Overspray on gutters rough lines, missed spots on tricky soffits etc... Not saying your like that just my opinion on what I have see in the areas I do most of my work.

We spray and never have over spray and if its Cedar we spray, backroll and spray again so there is no way this company has better coverage than us. Also if you read their entire ad it says most homes 3,399 plus trim 1799. I can do most two color homes for over 5 grand.

Check out this part "The guarantee is a 3-year warranty including labor and material. The warranty is valid for 5 years if we apply two coats"

Which means they are doing the old painters trick. Looks light in some areas not getting it to cover needs another coat but I'll only charge you half the price for the second coat.

As far as deposits we NEVER charge more than $400 no matter what the job costs and that is just to hold their spot on our board. If something happens and they change their mind we return the deposit unless we have already power washed or ordered the paint.

They are just using slick marketing!

That is some pretty slippery marketing they have going there. Its just a website though. Are our websites really all that powerful? Think just in terms of our little family right here on painttalk, there are guys who dont have websites who we hold in very high esteem, and there are guys with websites that I wouldnt hire to wash my truck. Its just a website.

I think slippery is too kind. Either they are very naive, or intentionally dishonest. They make claims that are very dubious, as well as claims that are simply false.

For example, they claim that brushing and rolling results in a thicker paint film, thereby implying a better finish. The Paint Quality Institute has done many tests on this, and has found that spraying is actually better in many situations.

If thicker is better, why do they only do one coat, particularly when the manufacturer recommends 2 coats? And if thicker is better, then why not apply 10 coats? That would certainly be thicker.

How do they know what others charge? How do they know how long it takes other companies to do the job? How do they know the material costs of other companies? What is bar wood?

I just use our sprayer to get the paint evenly on the house. We always backbrush thoroughly. We get a more even, consistent, more even appearing job this way. Though I will admit we do sometimes leave holidays. And sometimes we get over spray on stuff. But we always take care of it before we collect the check.

My interpretation of their ad is that if you have say vinyl or brick siding and just want your trim painted it is always $1799. Who paints a house but not the trim? But you never know with their (as Brian said) dubious and seemingly intentionally dishonest website.

Personally, I don't have a huge problem with companies that offer cheap prices. My problem is when they present themselves as offering better quality and more value than they actually do.

There is a market for cheap paint jobs, such as apartment painting, and I don't begrudge anyone pursuing such a market. I just wish they'd be honest about what they are offering and not slam legitimate contractors who offer more value. In other words, I'd have no problem with a company that offered cheap prices and was honest about everything involved. Their web site would look like this parody site.
