Year round, I never quite did figure out how someone can be a summer painter without going to school, or otherwise having employment struggles.

Unless of course your exterior season is longer ( Calgary was 4 months ) and can coast through the winter after working your butt off all summer

 

We used to have a guy here that plowed snow for his winter $.
If I did not do this full time I would have to do something else the other parts of it. Either that or the wife would murder me.

 

I have focused on interior work- rain snow ,sleet or the dead of night... no wait about the night thing....

Unless the pay is set accordingly that is.

 

We are year round and add a sizable summer crew. But, Dec-Feb are brutal.

 

We had an unusually wet and cold spring, homes that should have been done by now are still being built.

 

I couldn't vote cause there isn't a option for weekends, year round

 

I knew I was missing something in the poll.

 

Around here there's a lot of firemen that paint on their off days. 3 or 4 days at the station and the remainder of the week off to paint.

Edit: I'm in it for the long haul. I'm too damn stubborn to work for anyone else! Haha!

 

I messed up the poll options, my mind went blank to the other options. I know of a few County Parks and Rec guys that have part time painting businesses.

 

year round but it gets very slow in the winter, does that make it seasonal I dont know, but I enjoy the winters

 

Maybe a more accurate description would be a year round painter who is seasonally profitable.

 

I was always year round after the first couple of years...had to build up a customer base. Luckily it always seemed when things got slow, a good insurance resto job or remodel came into play.

I learned to market for the slow times/seasons.

 

Not many days here that you can't do exteriors.

I try to make enough from spring to fall. Then I try to make enough for groceries during the winter from poker.:thumbup:

 

I'm year round, but have to make enough money in the summer to pre-pay bills for the winter. I stay busy in the winter, but the money is nowhere near as good.

 

I do this full-time, cause,,, I'm too old, too fat,too ugly, and too hard to get along with to do anything else !!!:thumbsup:

 

Something Scott said made me wonder how many of you guys do this as a seasonal thing? I know some of you guys are in it for the exterior season only so what do you do the rest of the year for income?

For me it is year round

I paint year round. My exterior is seasonal, I live in Boston so We get cold ass winters and cant paint outside! Interior residential re-paints mostly people want spring, summer, fall. This is why I line up commercial work, and apartment re-paints because it keeps me bussy through the winter.
