Hello Paint Talk!

A little about me:

I have been in the Paint and Coatings industry for over 7 years now working in sales. For a short time during college I ran a successful restoration company that focused on fixing up foreclosures and painting was the main service.

I also have experience as a laborer for a heavy road construction company for four years.

For the last 4.5 years I have done seo and other internet marketing as a hobby and just recently have worked to help others improve their online efforts.

I AM NOT TRYING TO SELL ANYTHING WITH THIS POST!

Instead I would like to lend a helping hand to construction company owners while at the same time getting valuable information about a contractors fears or frustrations when it comes to internet marketing.

If you have any question regarding seo or any other online marketing efforts please post below. I could also help you on any website questions as well. If I don't know though, I will tell you.

Thank you,

seomichael

Re:Rent a Painter

What should I do if Google deleted my google places and I can't get them to reply. Should I delete it and create another one? Or wait until they reviewed it.

Last time I talked to them a few months back it didn't go well.
Let's check a few things to see if we can find out what happened. Sometimes if Google doesn't like the way something is presented on the page they drop it in the rankings or altogether.

If you would, please go to your Places Dashboard and under the "Status" heading make sure it says "Active." If it is pending or needs action please describe the message.

If your page is active click the "See your listing on Google" and let me know if your page comes up or if there is an error message. If there is an error message let me know what the message is. If your page does come up try to send me a link or a screen shot of your page.

Also was there any editing done on any information from the time your page showed up to the time is disappeared? Make sure your categories listed are from Google default options. I noticed you have a Google+ page. Sometimes Google tries to merge the two and takes time to work itself out.

Also check this. Did you choose that customers come to your location or that your business goes to their location. Then check to see if you hid your address or if you decided to show address. If you don't service customers at your location but decided to show your address Google will take down listing due to business incorrectly being stated as a store front.

Lastly how long as your places listing been missing?

Thanks. I know this is very preliminary and I apologize if you have already taken these steps. Let me know if I wasn't clear on anything.

Most likely your logged in and have your personal search settings turned on, and on your Ipad your search settings are different.

Sorry I thought this was like jeopardy, that was a answer. But thanks.

Do you blog?

....
Haha. I'm just joking too. I have done quite a bit of blogging in the past for other businesses and will soon be starting a blog for a tech company in the St. Louis area. I have a blog on my SEO site as well but definitely could be developed more.

Nice use of video and adding social media to your own blog!

This is a great place to start. It seems like Google owns so much crap that I browse through (google of course, youtube, webmaster tools, gmail) so signing out of everything, including your Google + and Places can be a task.

To test this, as Midas suggested, turn off all personalization and sign out of everything Google related.

Or an easier way that I do is use the Incognito or InPrivate browsing option available on most all browsers. This browser page will be clean of any information about the sites and pages you've visited. Including cookies and cached information (more or less information on your browsing history).

Midas makes a good point. Sometimes it is earth shattering news to tell someone Google search results are different from computer to computer...person to person.

Good advice and a great place to start. Try it out and keep us updated on the results.

It says active

It says We currently do not support the location

They merged my You Tube and Google + Business accounts recently

I fixed that just now

About 2-3 weeks

Not really an SEO question, but do you know a good free/cheap wordpress theme that would work for a basic storefront? It's for a side business. Only about 5-20 products and they rotate quarterly. Don't need something really elaborate, just something attractive. Ebay is killing me on fees now so I need to branch out to a website.

This is most likely the cause. Even though your address will be hidden you will still be on the map. It will just appear as a circle rather than the red pin.

I've seen a Google Places page pop up within a few days to a few months after making this fix. Keep checking to make sure your listing is active. It looks as though Google Places has changed it set up so to find out if your listing is active you have to login, click the business listing heading then look to the right and it should say "live." I hope that's not as confusing as it sounds.

Some changes to google places have to go through quality check so give it at least a week. If you get impatient after that, which everyone obviously would, you may have to call google and make sure the listing was not taken down permanently.

Please keep me updated on any changes and I truly hope it pops back up very soon. Google is not exactly known for having great customer service for Google Places.

Good Luck!
