The American Painting Contractor magazine had an interesting article about slow times by Victor DeMasi. "Recessions wipe out competition, leaving those standing ready to profit in the following boom" DeMasi says.
The main point was how to endure slow times and making changes in your business, during one slow down he ended up developing his decorative skills and ended up with a totally different business.
Should we be looking at adjusting marketing and broaded our approach to accept tasks such as home repair or whatever you can come up with since the market is changing.

I do believe this is the time to adjust your business and prepare for the boom to come. However I don't think it will ever get where it was. Some people believe it will and if not may be more. I remember driving on one of my project. The builder had 6 phases going each phase had about 30 homes a total of 186 homes. every phase had walls standing. We had three foreman's 30 painters prepers and spray men. I thought my God this is got to be it. 6 month later it crashed. I learned so many valuable things through that experience. From slinging a brush to managing a large company. So yeas I believe now is the time to test the water on different idea. This was why I have been trying the whole green approach. It has paid off but not as much as I like so I am changing my marketing to focus more of quality painting that also promotes the green.
