Hi,

A few friends and I started a siding company last year and got our first contract. 23 office buildings exterior reside and paint. The plans read "two coats of SW duration". The site is fully occupied ie. cars etc. And there is barely any green space all the buildings are jammed up next to parking, each other, and the lots surrounding the complex.

We (4 owners) are currently self-performing (brush roll) all the work (it is a slow sched). We'd like to hire some painters but am having some trouble locating WC in Texas. I guess thats another question for another forum though hehe. Everything is going great with the owners and GC. However, the painting takes forever by hand.

Do any of you think it can be too windy to spray (most days here it seems to average way over 15-20mph)? I don't have much experience spraying so i prob won't be doing it anyway. Also, duration is 45$/gallon. I think if we sprayed or hired some guys to spray we'd see dollars floating away in the breeze at 45$ per gallon. Duration is so damn thick too. I know the application method of spraying close to surface and back rolling might get rid of some overspray issues. Given the wind and DRY wind duration drys on contact. Its not runny at all like the SW superpaint. So backrolling doesn't sound like a good idea with the duration. Seems like that would just make a mess.

Basically, after we get a draw we'll prob hire guys who have experience spraying. Even if someone has experience spraying seems crazy to do it here in Texas. Just wanted some opinions on this.

Thanks alot for your help.

Mike

Hi 5th,
invest in car covers for sure. Seriously. Go to our link below and look up the stores in west tx. Even though you are using Duration, one of our reps will be willing to help w/ any ideas of application and likely good local painters.

Do not hesitate to ask. If you'd like, let me know where your project is I can direct you better. Good luck.

I would think that you should be able to control parking in the areas that you work for the day. Get some cones and wet paint tape. If you find a spray guy these areas won't be blocked for long. Painters plastic works well to cover cars. Latex paint dries pretty fast once atomized in warm weather. A professional spray guy will be able to control much of the spray. i.e. If breezy, move the gun with the wind not against it. You will lose some paint but the labor reduction will more than make up for it.
