Storing HVLP Spray Guns

221 Views 4 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Holland
I just got some HVLP spray guns for situations like "just one cabinet door needs resprayed and I only have a little paint left."

My Questions: How do you store your guns when they are only for waterborne? Do you do anything special to prep them for storage?

Thanks,
Brian

Soap and water is all I do. I put the gun away in pieces, stored in a plastic bin, everything clean and dry.

It’s not like airless that has moisture trapped inside.

Thank you!

Do you leave the it open to the air or is the bin closed?

One of the advantages of an HVLP is the relatively easier clean up. Spraying the gun clean with soap and water, and maybe a bit of thinner once in awhile, will do the trick. Wipe it out at the end and, as Holland said, break it down for storage. There are some good videos out there showing how to take your gun apart to clean and adjust it and learning how to do that correctly can be a big help.

I clean gun and fluid set in a bucket of soapy water and lay it out to dry as shown. I would store with lid closed when dry. If you did a thorough job cleaning, there is nothing more to worry about.

You could use a pump armor I suppose, or something similar made for sprayers, if you storing it long term. I would using avoid anything that might dry out the multiple tiny rubber gaskets/seals inside the gun.
