the guy i work for( same one i quit last week) is switching from duron to proter. just wondering if anyone uses porter and what should i expect? ive always heard bad things about porter, even the alkyd stuff. every brush i have was bought while considering how it will perform with duron or the occasional valspar. the samples he got look cheap, at least the label and bucket. i just have a feeling we will be back with duron soon. if i do sidework i use duron also but want to try sherwin williams, but am unfamiliar with the products. we usually use duron prokote, ultra deluxe on a select few, and duraclad alkyd. also use durons weathershield and the signature if they want to go over oil, it works with some colors but id rather go oil over oil. anyway, tell me about porter/ppg

I use a lot of duron, thier signuture select, semi- gloss is the latex semi I have used, the guys did not like porters top of the line semi.

I use ultra deluxe bright white for ceilings, I tried porters ceiling paint and it never covered as well, however they may have another line wich works better.

wall paints seem pretty equall. I like the silkens touch, as much as plastic coat.

I switched to porter mainly because of pricing, once Duron found out they matched porters pricing to get me back. I prefer the guys at duron what it really boils down to, when all other things are equall.

SW well Im about sick of those jokers, every 4 months they have a friggen price increase, I do still use their durations for exterior, but as soon as I find something as good Im done with them

What about Porter Wood Guardian Exterior Solid Color Stain? Comes in Alkyd & Acrylic. Anyone use this product? I saw wood samples at the B/M store, looked good, but then they always do!

no one ever heard of porter/ppg? my boss says they are right up there with sherwin williams as far as conglomerates go. but if no ones has used it i guess there would be no replies haha
Porter is part of PPG and is not there main brand and I believe have turn into more of a regional brand. Its not available in Chicago anymore. PPG has store own stores and sell Pittsburgh only. (If I am wrong I'm sure someone will chime in)

Yes, in my book, it is one of the 'big 3'; SW, BM, and Porter.
Porter is good paint, and has lines that compare to the others.
I agree. I have used many porter and Pittsburg paints. They will have lines that will be comparable to Duron.
I used Pittsburg industrial enamel high gloss for years before i finally switched to waterbourne

PPG here sells Pittsburg and Porter paints along with Olympic stains. They used to sell Sikens before Olympic became part of them.

Have you tried PPG's Timeless? Pretty good stuff. Covers real well. (can't compare to Duration because I have not used Duration.)

the 5 of porter i rolled out of had a lot of trash in it, but i liked the way it rolled. seemed alot easier to get an even spread, but i still think the duron brushes on better, or at least feels like it does. i read on this forum a couple of weeks ago that duron was going to start marketing itself as more of a diy kinda place. anyone heard anything else about this?
