I have a paper and a plastic masker and use only blue tape with them. I don't use them that often but they are great and fast especially for quickly covering things like toilets, tubs, sinks or whatnot. For base I just use wider tape. When I finish a wall I immediately remove the tape to avoid wall paint tearoff.
For those that are accidentally removing paint from trim with tape, you really need to try a lighter adhesion tape. Try Shurtape's yellow Razor Edge available at S-W. It's pricey but really excellent stuff. I just did a job with new stained/urethaned poplar against new drywall and old plaster, you can imagine the gaps between wall and trim. I did stain/sanding sealer/poly over the wood, then taped off with Razor Edge, caulked sparingly with White Lightening Quick Dry, first coated, pulled tape, retaped, second coated. Excellent straight lines.
