to unionise or not to unionise...

ive been struggling with this question for the last year... should i join the local here and become a union guy or stay freelance and keep all mu money. i am self employed but i know there is some security in unionising and i wonder what you guys think?:blink:

Roamer, that has always been my issue with the union, the division of labor. i enjoy the multiple stages of my day to day grind. i like having the chance to strap my own frame together, hang my board nail it screw it tape and skim it, then paint it and get paid for all of it? that to me is better than being FORCED to only take part in one, singular aspect of the work scope. i dont have a problem with going onto a jobsite and only doing my prep and painting, but its nice to bid on jobs that require me to utilize my other skills

then on the flip i see where having some compartmentalization is good for keeping people employed, especially in a city like Philadelphia. but i think it goes to far in some cases, including your situaution

Unions don't keep people employed, businesses do.
Notice all the Florida-based guys on here chiming in on this union thing. Yeah, me neither.......
