Too many questions...

3177 Views 8 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  Paul_R
I have started to write a post twice and found I was writing a novel both times. I obviously have a lot of questions.

Is it better to post multiple times or write one enormous question and hope for the best?

My dad was a painter for 20+ years and I thought I'd learned some things from him. But from what I've read here... He was full of dung.

PS. I've read through most of the forum already, so apparently I'm dumber than even I thought I was/AM.

you had me at dung...lol

we all have a lot to learn Matt
I'd say just post whatever you want...if you ask something so generic like "what paint should I use for....?"...you may be waiting for a while since way too many guys ask those questions and I get absolutely bored with them

fire away man...I'm sure we can learn a lot from you even if you don't think so

Based on that, I'd say you are pretty bright. Nobody knows everything, and realizing that is an important part of learning. You may not always like the answers you get to your questions, but you will certainly get something to think about.

Welcome to Paint Talk.

I wouldn't be so hard on the old fella...

Situation is, nearly ALL the product has changed over 20yrs.

Possibly the only thing that has NOT changed is the value of a good work ethic!
Ask your questions.....it seems that most of these threads will turn great answers, with options ! We're waiting.

Matt,

Just like in life, (the longer I live, the less I know), the longer I'm in business the less cocky I get. There is a ton of info here and anybody who can come to terms with what they don't know like you just did, should benefit big-time from it all.
I know you said you have read through the site, you may want to do a search b 4 posting your question just in case you have missed anything. If ya can't find what you are looking for, ask away my brother.
I get this alot when I'm talking to painters. However, while I know alot about paint and paint chemistry... I SUCK at applying it. Also, I know a heck of alot more about industrial than I do residential.

One thing I learned a long time ago is that there is ALWAYS someone who knows more than you do. I know you guys could teach me alot if we were on a jobsite together! It's really about perspective sometimes... The driver of a car thinks they know alot until they meet the engineer. And, you may not want to ride shotgun with the engineer driving... We've all got something to offer each other...
Gabchoud, I used to be in retail. Associates would ask the silliest questions, most of which I had poor to no answer. Sometimes they would ask questions that their manager could only answer! The folks I interacted with trusted me and looked to me for answers, but many times I failed them. I got to the point where I hated to answer questions, and simply said that I didn't know every thing , but when my wife told me the rest, then I would. There are a lot of great minds here, but DO NOT GIVE UP YOUR DAD!

Happy painting, Paul.
