hey, i am working on wood trim and doors, they look good. they are currently stained and polyed. only a few scratches here and there. customer wants them refinished. can i sand with fine wool then apply stain poly mixture. going back same stain color. thanks

I hate the stain poly combo stuff. did some replacement windows with em and the color is just not as even. I would use some fine grit sandpaper, wipe really clean after vacuuming, rub some stain around with a rag to just fill in the nicked parts and then poly the whole thing.

are you sanding the entire door or just the "nicked" spots? I've seen people do it either way. And just a quick poly question? why cant you touch up the poly? is it because of the "yellowing" effect that has taken place with the old poly?
