I have to ask this. How many hours in day does every work.

The reason I am asking this is because it seems like I am working longer and longer. Usually M-F I work til about 8pm. Lately its been around 9pm. Even on the weekend I will work from 9am to about 8pm.

Like today (7-12) I started work at 9am worked till 11:30am got the kids, and Then I started work again at 4:30pm and now I will be working 10pm tonight, just because the guy that I am sub-contracted out with needs the doors I am working by Monday.

I don't work Sundays either that's a day of relaxing.

You need to do something about that. If you are working more than 45 hours or so ACTUALLY PAINTING, then you are definitely not doing something right. You need to either hire someone to help or find a way to regain control of your life because right now your customers are controlling it. If you were a single guy, hey work as many as you want, but with a family you will burn out, your wife may leave you, and your kids will wonder why Dad is never home.

Yeah, I get that already. "Why is dad never home" Kids get sick and tired of it when I am not home for supper. I try to spend at least an hour with my kids but I don't that any more because of this.

I have two jobs just so we can keep the family going. My day job as a painter in a manufacturing company and painter by night.

I have been thinking about hiring some one to help, but I just can't part with the money. I am afraid something might happen.

What you are describing is burning the candle at both ends.

There are many different people living double lives
One for the office and one that they take home to their wives
He sits in the arm chair watching channel 4
His brain's not expected home for an hour or more
Hes just drifting to and fro
Like a yo yo

Wife's in the kitchen, fixing the old man his tea
She's thinking to herself "He's not the man that married me..."
They used to laugh together, now he's never at home
And she's fighting back the tears, she cant even laugh alone
She's just drifting to and fro
Like a yo yo

Name that tune

We usually work 8s. Recently we've been averaging 7s doto waiting for crap to dry with nothing else to do. That's in the field though. Spend alot of time driving around & doing paperwork on top of that.

When doing empty interiors I find I work long hours. Not cause I have to, but because I find it to be a stress reliever. On the job at 5am & just goto town in peace till sometimes 9pm. So much more fun than being at home getting yelled at for this or that with a punch out list of things to do that I'm NOT getting paid for.

If you have so much work, it's time to bring on another guy. You get more work done faster allowing you to move on to the next job & do the same.

Its not that I have a lot of work its just a bunch of odds and ends for a bunch of different people, doors, paint that, paint this. Its also causing me to put my other guy on hold most of the time (sub-contracted, through a window and door company).

Yes I am back now, got the first coat on the door tonight. Guess I have to work in morning.

Cut the crap. This is ridiculous. Keep your damn day job, forget the pipe dream of a paint business (trust us, its not for you) and put your damn family back together. The world doesnt need another knucklehead trying to run a business. Your kids need 2 parents. Don't be a loser.

Hey V, might not be Sev's choice ...... If I was his wife I'd be stoked that he was on here instead of talking stupid crap to me all night.

Nah, I've seen this movie before. She's the brains in the relationship, only she sits home on her fat ace and spends the money faster than he can bring it in, they have more kids than they should, and when he cant bring in the cash fast enough, she starts in with the credit cards, he's a puss and cant stand up to her so he buries his head in the sand and works two jobs instead of one, thinking that she will respect the new-found entrepeneur in him, the relationship nosedives, they separate, he keeps working and doesnt even know about child support yet...all because he could never tell her to get off her fat ace and get a damn job and contribute. I lost respect for Sev on this deal. I think I will boycott him.
