I have a commercial job and have not seen this in many years, but you can see ever stud under the drywall. It looks like metals are magnetizing and sticking to the studs. Has anyone else ever seen this and could you point me in the right direction to get some sort of documentation to give to the customer. My Ben Moore and Sherwin Williams reps were of no help.

Thanks in advance

I think there was a discussion at CT about this and we all agreed it was an insulation issue.
The studs were conducting cold, causing condensation. No matter what you cover it with it will re~appear during certain weather.

The link that
deachdeach
gave explains it pretty well, I will try and post some pictures Tomorrow...It is crazy it looks like striped wallpaper.

My problem is how to coat it so it won't come back through....they aren't going to replace the drywall.

From Reading the article and others I have found by doing a search of Thermal Bridging it doesn't seem like I am going to fix this with just paint? Although I am not sure that this is a mold problem. What I failed to say is that this problem is inside of a church I wonder now if the striping can be explained away by smoke sticking to the studs by this Thermal Bridging (My new million dollar term!!!) phenomenon.

Give your client the basic breakdown of the problem and see what options you can come up with. Almost any problem can be fixed it just depends on how much money they are willing to invest to create the solution.
Let us know what you end up doing about this.
